The artist has handed over the full amount of his £25k award cash to the MVT, which functions to protect the UK's grassroots music venues.

Fender was awarded the award on mid-October as his latest record the album was named the top album of the past year.

The musician has opted to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in acknowledgment of the essential function local spots played in his early career.

"I would not have achieved my current career if it hadn't been for all the performances I performed around the region, and beyond, when I was beginning," said Fender. "These spaces are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

From early 2023 onward, more than 150 of these locations have permanently closed – approximately 16% of the entire UK sector.

Over the past year, well-known musicians including Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the Music Venues Trust in its attempts to help venues survive, by including a minor surcharge to their admission fees, which supports smaller concert halls.

Fender also participated, raising more than £100,000 on his live tour to help thirty-eight small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The money assisted venues that were facing possible closure due to issues caused by water damage, fire incidents and personal losses, as well as permit problems, court cases and noise complaints.

Additional spaces obtained financial assistance in upgrading amenities and gear that helped performers and audiences.

"The idea that funds from shows in big venues supports the local stages, where it all starts for artists like me, is just sensible," Fender has stated.

He is far from the only musician to contribute his award funds to charitable organizations.

When the band received the prize in the year 1996 for their album Different Class, lead singer Jarvis Cocker declared that the band would donate their winnings to the non-profit the charity.

During 2002, rapper and singer the artist divided her bounty among a few good causes, including the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"And I donated a grand to the center, to their gymnastics class, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they lacked better apparatus," Ms Dynamite shared with a publication.

Previously, the band contributed their winnings to the youth organization that developed their band, as well as other independent music bodies.

Also the 1994 recipients the group gave their winnings to a multiple sclerosis charity after a acquaintance was found to have the disease.

"The victory was quite enough," stated vocalist Small. "The prize was the bonus but we didn't need the bonus, because we had the honor. So our winning affected somebody else's life."

In the past week, the trust announced it had saved a couple of small stages in that region, by bringing them into local control.

The first in the city and the second in the city were acquired under the Own Our Venues program, which is funded by Arts Council England and music fans who buy "shares" in the buildings.
