The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Could Fix That

As any major awards ceremony approaches, you'll find a clamor to include of new categories to recognize unsung work and satisfy the hearts of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.

My colleague previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. The same goes for tabletop games, representing someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front just as with other single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal stands as crucial and significant. The demand is this: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and it will always start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that movie academies avoid this approach. However, it represents an essential concession in the world of video games, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies presently include genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories actually cover a lot of ground, and you can find room for numerous titles.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Examine these examples from this year’s best games, all very different: building puzzles of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. Which classification works within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles launched regularly that have no home at major award shows, if they accidentally match award groups including Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated in any category during that awards season
  • Another creative title missed out that year
  • Popular arranging title got ignored in 2021
  • Limited numbers of brain-teasers scraped into independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often small games, but the art behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games stand as the most-played games worldwide continuing this trend for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience challenges well-known building titles claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it also contends as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, and engaging with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter that issue. You could fill a field of five with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories in important events. Logic title developers are working at the demanding boundary game development, developing some of most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait generations.
