Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Officers say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then located many other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police report initial examinations suggest the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; investigators are not yet cognizant of any harm in connection with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have requested to the public for tips.
A high-ranking political figure said the vandalism rendered him without words and required to be solved quickly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a shooter targeting people of migrant background in 2020.
